Clarksville

Clarksville, just west of downtown, began after emancipation when Charles Clark, a formerly enslaved man, bought two acres and sold land to other freedmen. It was one of the first freedmen's towns established west of the Mississippi, and the historic Hezikiah Haskell House still stands.
